Johnn Lee Sanders, Piano, Saxophone and Flute

Louisiana and the Mississippi Delta produce some of the funkiest jazz & blues musicians in the world, and John Lee Sanders is no exception. After graduating from North Texas State, he performed in Texas with local legends Freddie King and David Fathead Newman. He was discovered by Michael Hossack of the Doobies, and relocated to San Francisco.

There, he became an established Session player with a production contract with Narada Michael Walden and Rod Stewart’s Riva Records. He recorded and performed with Starship, John Lee Hooker, Robben Ford, Tower of Power, Huey Lewis, Sam Moore, and Zigaboo Modeliste of the Meters. He was Hammond Organist at the largest Black Church in Oakland playing traditional and contemporary Gospel. For many years he was music director for Long John Baldry, which led to his first solo record contract with Hypertension/BMG

He’s an established songwriter, with an Emmy and WC Handy award nominations. His piano styles are grounded in the Gospel, Jazz and blues sound of New Orleans where his early musical roots were formed.

As a vocalist, John Lee’s talents are in demand by top advertising giants with clients such as Walmart, Nissan, Apple Computer and network shows at CBS television. He’s written horn arrangements for Tower of Power, and orchestral scores for the Santa Cruz Symphony. He has just finished all of the lead and background vocals for Tower of Power’s founding member Doc Kupka, in his new CD, Doc Goes Hollywood, with the William Orchestra, Music director for the 2007 Academy Awards.

In addition to session and solo work, John Lee is a master of complete song production, using vocals, live horns, loops and audio samples. One such song ended up being used by the CBS show, Bold & Beautiful and is currently nominated for a 2007 Emmy for Song of the Year.
