Bruce Bears, Keyboards

Bruce has been playing piano and organ professionally since the early 1980s. During the past 25 year period he has also played or recorded with a wide variety of performers and musicians including: James Harman, Nicole Nelson, Martin Sexton, Junior Watson, Mavis Staples, Mark Erelli, Luther "Guitar Jr.," Johnson, "Sax" Gordon Beadle, "Big Jack" Johnson, Duke Robillard, "Little Milton" Campbell, Amyl Justin and Kid Bangham, Sherman Robertson, Ronnie Earl, Sugar Ray and the Bluetones, J. Geils, Susan Tedeschi, Lorne Entress, Dwight Ritcher and many more.

Just recently Bruce has begun a musical collaboration with Jesse Williams and Mark Texeira from Duke Robillard's band. The resulting personal side project is entitled "threadbear fynn" and focuses on instrumental music with influences from all sorts of styles including New Orleans Style Piano and Funk, Jazz (especially the soul jazz exemplified by masters such as piano great Gene Harris and organ great Jimmy Smith) and Jam Music.

While studying music in college Bruce began playing in various rock bands and R&B/Jazz groups in Upstate NY. Upon graduating and moving back home to Massachusetts Bruce began working in Top 40 groups eventually winding up in his first serious Boston based group, The Motor City Rhythm Kings. After playing Keyboards for "The Kings" for several years he played in various local Boston groups, played and was instrumental in creating the seminal Wally's Monday Jam on Massachusetts Avenue in Boston's South End and the Johnny D's Sunday Jam in uber hip Davis Square, Somerville. Since then Bruce has become the keyboard player of choice for many national Blues, R&B, Folk, Jam and Funk acts. In 1988 Bruce met Blues Diva Toni Lynn Washington. He's been Toni's Musical Director ever since and has been essential in the production of all of Toni's CDs. He continues to play and perform with her on a regular basis.
